==================================================================== Red Hat Security Advisory Synopsis: Moderate: lcms security update Advisory ID: RHSA-2009:0011-01 Product: Red Hat Enterprise Linux Advisory URL: https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2009-0011.html Issue date: 2009-01-07 CVE Names: CVE-2008-5316 CVE-2008-5317 ==================================================================== 1. Summary: Updated lcms packages that resolve several security issues are now available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5. This update has been rated as having moderate security impact by the Red Hat Security Response Team. 2. Relevant releases/architectures: Red Hat Enterprise Linux Desktop (v. 5 client) - i386, x86_64 RHEL Desktop Workstation (v. 5 client) - i386, x86_64 Red Hat Enterprise Linux (v. 5 server) - i386, ia64, ppc, s390x, x86_64 3. Description: Little Color Management System (LittleCMS, or simply "lcms") is a small-footprint, speed-optimized open source color management engine. Multiple insufficient input validation flaws were discovered in LittleCMS. An attacker could use these flaws to create a specially-crafted image file which could cause an application using LittleCMS to crash, or, possibly, execute arbitrary code when opened. (CVE-2008-5316, CVE-2008-5317) Users of lcms should upgrade to these updated packages, which contain backported patches to correct these issues. All running applications using lcms library must be restarted for the update to take effect. 4. Solution: Before applying this update, make sure that all previously-released errata relevant to your system have been applied. This update is available via Red Hat Network. Details on how to use the Red Hat Network to apply this update are available at 5. Bugs fixed (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/): 473462 - CVE-2008-5316 lcms: insufficient input validation in ReadEmbeddedTextTag 473463 - CVE-2008-5317 lcms: unsigned -> signed integer cast issue in cmsAllocGamma 6.
