An update that fixes two vulnerabilities is now available. . SUSE Security Update: Security update for the Linux Kernel (Live Patch 32 for SLE 12) ______________________________________________________________________________ Announcement ID: SUSE-SU-2018:2349-1 Rating: important References: #1097108 #1099306 Cross-References: CVE-2018-10853 CVE-2018-3646 Affected Products: SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12-LTSS ______________________________________________________________________________ An update that fixes two vulnerabilities is now available. Description: This update for the Linux Kernel 3.12.61-52_122 fixes several issues. The following security issues were fixed: - CVE-2018-3646: Local attackers in virtualized guest systems could use speculative code patterns on hyperthreaded processors to read data present in the L1 Datacache used by other hyperthreads on the same CPU core, potentially leaking sensitive data, even from other virtual machines or the host system (bsc#1099306). - CVE-2018-10853: A flaw was found in kvm. In which certain instructions such as sgdt/sidt call segmented_write_std didn't propagate access correctly. As such, during userspace induced exception, the guest can incorrectly assume that the exception happened in the kernel and panic. (bsc#1097108). Patch Instructions: To install this SUSE Security Update use the SUSE recommended installation methods like YaST online_update or "zypper patch". Alternatively you can run the command listed for your product: - SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12-LTSS: zypper in -t patch SUSE-SLE-SERVER-12-2018-1584=1 Package List: - SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12-LTSS (x86_64): kgraft-patch-3_12_61-52_122-default-7-2.1 kgraft-patch-3_12_61-52_122-xen-7-2.1 References: https://www.suse.com/security/cve/CVE-2018-10853.html https://www.suse.com/security/cve/CVE-2018-3646.html https://bugzilla.suse.com/1097108 https://bugzilla.suse.com/1099306 . Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 RHSA-2011-1531-03 Moderate: Qemu-KVM Bug Fix

Updated qemu-kvm packages that fix one security issue, multiple bugs, and add various enhancements are now available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6. The Red Hat Security Response Team has rated this update as having moderate security impact. A Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) base score,. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 ==================================================================== Red Hat Security Advisory Synopsis: Moderate: qemu-kvm security, bug fix, and enhancement update Advisory ID: RHSA-2011:1531-03 Product: Red Hat Enterprise Linux Advisory URL: https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2011:1531.html Issue date: 2011-12-06 CVE Names: CVE-2011-2527 ==================================================================== 1. Summary: Updated qemu-kvm packages that fix one security issue, multiple bugs, and add various enhancements are now available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6. The Red Hat Security Response Team has rated this update as having moderate security impact. A Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) base score, which gives a detailed severity rating, is available from the CVE link in the References section. 2. Relevant releases/architectures: Red Hat Enterprise Linux Desktop (v. 6) - x86_64 Red Hat Enterprise Linux HPC Node (v. 6) - x86_64 Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server (v. 6) - x86_64 Red Hat Enterprise Linux Workstation (v. 6) - x86_64 3. Description: KVM (Kernel-based Virtual Machine) is a full virtualization solution for Linux on AMD64 and Intel 64 systems. qemu-kvm is the user-space component for running virtual machines using KVM. It was found that qemu-kvm did not properly drop supplemental group privileges when the root user started guests from the command line ("/usr/libexec/qemu-kvm") with the "-runas" option. A qemu-kvm process started this way could use this flaw to gain access to files on the host that are accessible to the supplementary groups and not accessible to the primarygroup. (CVE-2011-2527) Note: This issue only affected qemu-kvm when it was started directly from the command line. It did not affect the Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization platform or applications that start qemu-kvm via libvirt, such as the Virtual Machine Manager (virt-manager). This update also fixes several bugs and adds various enhancements. Documentation for these bug fixes and enhancements will be available shortly from the Technical Notes document, linked to in the References section. All users of qemu-kvm are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which contain backported patches to correct these issues and add these enhancements. After installing this update, shut down all running virtual machines. Once all virtual machines have shut down, start them again for this update to take effect. 4. Solution: Before applying this update, make sure all previously-released errata relevant to your system have been applied. This update is available via the Red Hat Network. Details on how to use the Red Hat Network to apply this update are available at https://access.redhat.com/kb/docs/DOC-11259 5. Synopsis: Low: Virtio drivers for kernel 2.4.21-63.EL Issue date: 2010-03-18 This new package provides signed, para-virtualized block and network drivers for Scientific Linux 3 as a KVM virtualized guest. Users may see various warnings during package installation, including: * Different versions of package are already installed. Older versions of the package may cause "File exists" error messages to appear. The package will install successfully the error messages just inform the user that files for devices exist. This warning can be ignored. * If the previous installed package was for a different kernel (for example, kmod-virtio-smp on hugemem system), the installation will fail. Modules cannot be inserted and a "Wrong number of arguments" error message will appear. To fix this issue, create nodes manually as covered in the README file. This issue can be prevented by installing the correct drivers for the kernel package.
