    IPTables is a firewall program. It can restrict access by port, by IP address, or by the properties of packets.     Generally, incoming packets come through the INPUT chain, outgoing packets go through the OUTPUT chain, and packets that come in and then go out go through the FORWARD chain. Each chain consists of a sequence of rules. Each rule consists of a condition which may or may not be met, and a target to which the packet is sent if the condition is matched. If the condition is not matched, the packet is passed to the next rule in the chain.
