Red Hat is warning users that there is a virus targeting its Linux platform. In a ruse that has become all too common among Windows users, an e-mail that has been circulating for the last week attempts to get users to download what purports to be a patch issued by the company.

It was a sorry attempt by the virus writer, Panda Software CTO Patrick Hinojosa told NewsFactor.

"Linux users tend to be technically savvy individuals. These people are not going to automatically download whatever any random e-mail instructs them to. They will look at the headers, look at the address, look to see if it has a digital signature, which by the way, Red Hat uses in its e-mails."
