==================================================================== Red Hat Security Advisory Synopsis: Important: xalan-j2 security update Advisory ID: RHSA-2014:0348-01 Product: Red Hat Enterprise Linux Advisory URL: https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2014:0348.html Issue date: 2014-04-01 CVE Names: CVE-2014-0107 ==================================================================== 1. Summary: Updated xalan-j2 packages that fix one security issue are now available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 and 6. The Red Hat Security Response Team has rated this update as having Important security impact. A Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) base score, which gives a detailed severity rating, is available from the CVE link in the References section. 2. Relevant releases/architectures: RHEL Desktop Workstation (v. 5 client) - i386, x86_64 Red Hat Enterprise Linux (v. 5 server) - i386, ia64, ppc, s390x, x86_64 Red Hat Enterprise Linux Desktop (v. 5 client) - i386, x86_64 Red Hat Enterprise Linux Desktop Optional (v. 6) - noarch Red Hat Enterprise Linux HPC Node Optional (v. 6) - noarch Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server (v. 6) - noarch Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server Optional (v. 6) - noarch Red Hat Enterprise Linux Workstation (v. 6) - noarch Red Hat Enterprise Linux Workstation Optional (v. 6) - noarch 3. Description: Xalan-Java is an XSLT processor for transforming XML documents into HTML, text, or other XML document types. It was found that the secure processing feature of Xalan-Java had insufficient restrictions defined for certain properties and features. A remote attacker able to provide Extensible Stylesheet Language Transformations (XSLT) content to be processed by an application using Xalan-Java could use this flaw to bypass the intended constraints of the secure processing feature. Depending on the components available in the classpath, this could lead to arbitrary remote code execution in the context of the application server running the application that uses Xalan-Java. (CVE-2014-0107) All xalan-j2 users are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which contain a backported patch to correct this issue. 4. Solution: Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata relevant to your system have been applied. This update is available via the Red Hat Network. Details on how to use the Red Hat Network to apply this update are available at https://access.redhat.com/site/articles/11258 5.
