Turbolinux Inc has released the first major update to its eponymous Linux server operating system for two years with the launch of Turbolinux 10 Server.

The Tokyo, Japan-based Linux company was formerly one of the leading lights of the global Linux industry but is now mostly focused on the emerging market for the operating system in Japan and China following its acquisition by Japanese software house Software Research Associates Inc in 2002 and its subsequent sale to Japanese ISP and Linux reseller Livedoor Co Ltd in March.

The release of Turbolinux 10 Server marks the first major update to the company's server operating system since Turbolinux 8 Server was released in October 2002. As such it includes a number of enhancements, including the latest 2.6 version of the Linux kernel, asynchronous I/O, and support for up to 32-way SMP machines with NUMA.
