- ------------------------------------------------------------------------Debian Security Advisory DSA-1644-1 security@debian.org https://www.debian.org/security/ Devin Carraway October 05, 2008 https://www.debian.org/security/faq - ------------------------------------------------------------------------Package : mplayer Vulnerability : integer overflow Problem type : local (remote) Debian-specific: no CVE Id(s) : CVE-2008-3827 Debian Bug : 500683 Felipe Andres Manzano discovered that mplayer, a multimedia player, is vulnerable to several integer overflows in the Real video stream demuxing code. These flaws could allow an attacker to cause a denial of service (a crash) or potentially the execution of arbitrary code by supplying a maliciously crafted video file. For the stable distribution (etch), these problems have been fixed in version 1.0~rc1-12etch5. For he unstable distribution (sid), these problems have been fixed in version 1.0~rc2-18. We recommend that you upgrade your mplayer packages. Upgrade instructions - --------------------wget url will fetch the file for you dpkg -i file.deb will install the referenced file. If you are using the apt-get package manager, use the line for sources.list as given below: apt-get update will update the internal database apt-get upgrade will install corrected packages You may use an automated update by adding the resources from the footer to the proper configuration. Debian GNU/Linux 4.0 alias etch - -------------------------------Debian (stable) - ---------------Stable updates are available for alpha, amd64, arm, hppa, i386, ia64, mips, mipsel, powerpc, s390 and sparc.
