The latest alert from Ubuntu reveals a critical memory leak flaw in apache2, potentially allowing for unauthorized system access. It is crucial to apply updates without delay.
webfs, a lightweight HTTP server for static content, contains a buffer overflow whereby a long Request-URI in an HTTP request could cause arbitrary code to be executed.

Summary

webfs, a lightweight HTTP server for static content, contains a buffer
overflow whereby a long Request-URI in an HTTP request could cause
arbitrary code to be executed.

For the stable distribution (woody) this problem has been fixed in
version 1.17.1.

The old stable distribution (potato) does not contain a webfs package.

For the unstable distribution (sid) this problem will be fixed soon.

We recommend that you update your webfs package.

Upgrade Instructions
--------------------

wget url
will fetch the file for you
dpkg -i file.deb
will install the referenced file.

If you are using the apt-get package manager, use the line for
sources.list as given below:

apt-get update
will update the internal database
apt-get upgrade
will install corrected packages

You may use an automated update by adding the resources from the
footer to the proper configuration.
