A security issue affects these releases of Ubuntu and its derivatives:

- Ubuntu 12.10
- Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
- Ubuntu 11.10
- Ubuntu 10.04 LTS

Summary:

MySQL could be made to run programs if it received specially crafted
network traffic from an authenticated user.

Software Description:
- mysql-5.5: MySQL database
- mysql-5.1: MySQL database
- mysql-dfsg-5.1: MySQL database

Details:

It was discovered that MySQL incorrectly handled certain long arguments. A
remote authenticated attacker could use this issue to possibly execute
arbitrary code.

Update instructions:

The problem can be corrected by updating your system to the following
package versions:

Ubuntu 12.10:
  mysql-server-5.5                5.5.28-0ubuntu0.12.10.2

Ubuntu 12.04 LTS:
  mysql-server-5.5                5.5.28-0ubuntu0.12.04.3

Ubuntu 11.10:
  mysql-server-5.1                5.1.66-0ubuntu0.11.10.3

Ubuntu 10.04 LTS:
  mysql-server-5.1                5.1.66-0ubuntu0.10.04.3

In general, a standard system update will make all the necessary changes.
