Speaking at the Black Hat Security Conference, a noted cryptography expert predicts a gloomy future for online security. Cryptographer and security expert Bruce Schneier (seen here in an earlier photo) gave one of the opening keynotes Wednesday. In it, he argued that inevitably, as the Internet and computer systems become more complex, they become more insecure.

He gave two possible outcomes: We either "slow down, simplify, and add security"-- sort of the FDA-approval route-- or we accept products' inherent insecurity and try to manage risk rather than avoid all possible threats.
