UK government IT security is "worryingly poor" and needs significant improvement, according to research by a security testing firm. NTA Monitor said that almost half of the government IT systems it examined had more than 10 vulnerabilities which "exposed them to considerable risk".

Roy Hills, technical director at NTA Monitor, warned that government sector organisations are surprisingly insecure in comparison to other sectors. "What worries me most are the implications for citizens' records if the government manages to get all planned services online at current levels of security."
