The White House said it is kicking into high-gear a new version of the National Plan for Cyberspace Security and Critical Infrastructure Protection, which it said will be ready for action later this year. The White House said that the Commerce Department's Critical Infrastructure Assurance Office is now coordinating several other federal departments and agencies on the plan, and that it has already held meetings with the banking and finance, electric power, rail transportation, oil and gas, state and local law enforcement, information technology, and telecommunications industries.

The White House also said that, following a cabinet-level meeting, the administration "is reviewing how it is organized to deal with information security issues." It also noted that the taskforce designing the plan soon will make recommendations to President Bush on "structuring an integrated approach to the national economic, governance, and national security aspects of cyber-security and critical infrastructure protection."
