A Norwegian teen-ager who became a global hacker hero for bypassing the code on Hollywood's DVD films has been indicted on charges of committing a data break-in, police said Thursday. Jon Lech Johansen was 15 when he wrote and distributed a program, called DeCSS, in late 1999 that makes it possible to copy DVD films. Johansen, now 18 and a household name as DVD-Jon in Norway, became a celebrity among computer hackers, who even marched to support him in New York. His legal defense is being backed by a variety of groups.
