Nation State Attacks: GCHQ Insights on Evolving Cyber Threats

The former director general of GCHQ Robert Hannigan took to the keynote stage at Infosecurity Europe 2018 to discuss the evolving cyber-threat landscape, describing how – whilst changes in sophistication of lone actors and cyber-criminals are increasing the challenges of keeping data secure – it is the rise of nation state attacks that is “possibly the biggest change in the last couple of years.”

According to Verizon’s latest annual Data Breach Investigations Report, ransomware continues to be one of the biggest issues in the world of hacking. In fact, according to the report, ransomware is the most used type of malicious software, and so far has been the cause of 39 percent of malware-related data breaches in 2018, which is more than double that of last year.
