The implementation of broad privacy rules could require companies doing business online to tweak front- and back-end systems or install special software to establish tighter controls and policies on the collection, sharing and dissemination of customer data, solution providers say. As a result, the process could affect a host of integrated applications, including sales, marketing, customer service, database, data mining, communication and security, they say.
Some solution providers,particularly firms that specialize in security,already are seizing opportunities by helping companies in the health-care and financial services sectors comply with new federal privacy controls. And growing public concern about the confidentiality of personal data on the Web has companies in other industries coming to solution providers for help in adapting their information systems and developing privacy policies.
