The Information Security Education Research Center (ISC) of the Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) said Sunday that no hackers among the 3,664 teams worldwide managed to conquer its third level server and win in the First World Information Security Fair which was held from 9:00am June 27 to 9:00am July 1. As a result, Hackers' Lab, the company that managed the competition, chose the runner-up a team with the name "CRlab" since it managed to reach the second level security server before the game ended. CRlab was awarded US$20,000 prize money. The third place and US$10,000 prize money went to a team called "the best team for the olymfair," which was the first team to break into the second level server but was over taken by CRlab. The organizer, however, decided to give a US$10,000 special prize to a participant with the ID L@bman, who broke into the broadcasting server of the games and simulated conquering the third level server. Some 700 foreign teams from 21 countries participated in the competition but none of them made it to the finals. ISC researcher, professor Lee Kwang-hyoung said that the aim of the games was to attract powerful foreign hackers and see what their skills but that due to lack of promotion the number of foreign participants fell short from what they had expected. The award ceremony will be held from July 20-22 at KAIST during a workshop on the competition.. The link for this article located at Digital Chosun is no longer available. .
