Tools acquired by the Google search engine could make its results more relevant to users - but it runs the risk of infringing privacy. Google looks set to add personalisation features to its popular search engine, following the acquisition of Outride's intellectual property assets, announced yesterday. Though Google would not comment on its plans for the technology, its integration into the Google search engine could mark the most significant upgrade the company has made since its launch in 1999.

Outride makes tools for building databases of relevance information and mining them for data. While the precise nature of the technology Outride has developed could not be ascertained by press time, the company describes it as being able to "dynamically understand and learn the personally relevant information requirements of its users."
