A federal magistrate is expected to decide this month whether wiretap evidence collected by Canadian agents can be used against people charged with smuggling cigarettes to help finance a Lebanese guerrilla group. The issue takes on added importance as the United States tries to find and prosecute terrorists in the Sept. 11 attacks. U.S. Magistrate Judge Brent McKnight gave attorneys until Dec. 19 to file briefs in the case against Said Mohamad Harb, a naturalized U.S. citizen born in Lebanon.
