Surging demand for secure Internet connections helped online security company Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. (CHKP.O) more than double its earnings in the latest quarter, beating forecasts, the company said on Wednesday.

After a quarter in which the notorious ``Love Bug'' computer virus shut down big corporate e-mail systems, Check Point issued the surprising earnings news and raised its estimates for year-end results. The news boosted its stock price stock price in after-hours trading.

The company reported a 103 percent rise in second-quarter profits, fueled by strong sales across all product lines and geographical areas. Check Point expects its growth to remain strong through the year, though not at the same high level of the second quarter.
