StillSecure announced last week the release of Safe Access version 2.0, which tests all PCs on a network and gives access only to those that meet an organization's established security policies, while quarantining others. . . .

Safe Access is one of a family of three StillSecure products, which also includes BorderGuard for intrusion detection and prevention, and VAM for vulnerability identification, management and repair.

Safe Access is designed to protect from threats introduced via internal endpoints -- file-sharing software, spyware, and out-of-date or unpatched operating systems and applications. StillSecure claimed that tens of thousands of devices can be managed simultaneously, and compliance is enforced for internal, remote and wireless devices throughout the enterprise.

Additional new features in this version include policies based on MAC address, compliance tests, and IP/port quarantining. The new compliance tests include those for Windows XP Service Pack 2 and Windows XP Personal Firewall in addition to updated tests for viruses, worms, Trojans, spyware, patches, and security settings.
