KeeFarce Exposes KeePass Credentials Risk On Compromised Systems

Using a password manager is one of the biggest ways that average computer users can keep their online accounts secure, but their protection is pretty much meaningless when an end user's computer is compromised. Underscoring this often ignored truism is a recently released hacking tool that silently decrypts all user names, passwords, and notes stored by the KeePass password manager and writes them to a file. . KeeFarce, as the tool has been dubbed, targets KeePass, but there's little stopping developers from designing similar apps that target virtually every other password manager available today. Hackers and professional penetration testers can run it on computers that they have already taken control of. When it runs on a computer where a logged in user has the KeePass database unlocked, KeeFarce decrypts the entire database and writes it to a file that the hacker can easily access. . Exploring GSM Hacking Tools Impacting Wireless Network Security

Well it looks like what happened to WEP all those years ago is going to happen to GSM now. Internet Explorer Attack Code: Major Cyber Threats to Users Revealed

The dangerous Internet Explorer attack code used in last month's attack on Google's corporate networks is now public. The code was submitted for analysis Thursday on the Wepawet malware analysis Web site, making it publicly available. By Friday, it had been included in at least one publicly available hacking tool and could be seen in online attacks, according to Dave Marcus, director of security research and communications at McAfee.. The attack is very reliable on Internet Explorer 6 running on Windows XP, and it could possibly be modified to work on more recent versions of the browser, Marcus said. "The game really changes now that it's hosted publicly," he said. A hacker could use the code to run unauthorized software on a victim's computer by tricking them into viewing a maliciously crafted Web page. WPA Cracker for Quick Wi-Fi Auditing by Moxie Marlinspike

For US$34, a new cloud-based hacking service can crack a WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) network password in just 20 minutes, its creator says. Launched Monday, the WPA Cracker service bills itself as a useful tool for security auditors and penetration testers who want to know if they could break into certain types of WPA networks. It works because of a known vulnerability in Pre-shared Key (PSK) networks, usually used by home and small-business users. . To use the service, the tester submits a small "handshake" file that contains an initial back-and-forth communication between the WPA router and a PC. Based on that information, WPA Cracker can then tell whether the network seems vulnerable to this type of attack or not. The service was launched by a well-known security researcher who goes by the name of Moxie Marlinspike. In an interview, he said that he got the idea for WPA Cracker after talking to other security experts about how to speed up WPA network auditing. "It's kind of a drag if it takes five days or two weeks to get your results," he said. The link for this article located at Network World is no longer available. . The WPA Cracker tool facilitates rapid verification of wireless passwords, supporting efforts in enhancing network security evaluations and ethical hacking..
