PinDr0p Tool: Smart Caller ID Verification to Combat Vishing Threats

Security researchers in the States say they have developed a cunning new method of "fingerprinting" voice calls that could offer a route to trustworthy caller ID and a barrier against so-called "vishing" or voice phishing.. The tool is called PinDr0p, and works by analysing the various characteristic noise artifacts left in audio by the different types of voice network - cellular, VoIP etc. For instance, packet loss leaves tiny gaps in audio signals, too brief for the human ear to detect, but quite perceptible to the PinDr0p algorithms. Vishers and others wishing to avoid giving away the origin of a call will often route a call through multiple different network types. BreakingPoint BPS-1000: Security Testing Appliance for Networks

Renowned researcher HD Moore and startup BreakingPoint Systems's "baby" has finally arrived -- the company is launching its new all-in-one network and security testing appliance that Moore helped build. . The BPS-1000, which has been under development and under wraps for more than a year, conducts performance, integrity, and security testing of the network and network devices. It's different from penetration tools in that it tests both sides of the connection, says Moore, director of security research at BreakingPoint, and developer of the popular open-source Metasploit tool. An Overview of Netcat for Networking and Debugging Purposes

"Netcat is a simple Unix utility which reads and writes data across network connections, using TCP or UDP protocol. It is designed to be a reliable "back-end" tool that can be used directly or easily driven by other programs and scripts. At the same time, it is a feature-rich network debugging and exploration tool, since it can create almost any kind of connection you would need and has several interesting built-in capabilities. Netcat, or "nc" as the actual program is named, should have been supplied long ago as another one of those cryptic but standard Unix tools." . Packet sniffers, sometimes referred to as protocol or network analyzers, are invaluable tools for network and systems administrators. With an abundance of commercial and free software products available, it may be difficult to choose a good product. This article describes Ethereal, a free packet sniffer that not only decodes network traffic, but can filter and analyze it, all with an advanced, GTK-based GUI. Additionally, Ethereal can read the data files from a multitude of other packet sniffers, letting you analyze previously collected data. The files can even be compressed with gzip, and Ethereal will read and write to them invisibly. Ethereal can be downloaded from the main Web site: or from any of their mirrors worldwide. The latest version (as of this writing) is 0.8.19. It requires GTK+ 1.2 or greater, which can be downloaded from: and the libpcap packet capture library, which can be downloaded from: https://www.tcpdump.org/. Perl is also required to build the included documentation. Additionally, it is recommended that you download and install zlib, available at: so that Ethereal can work with gzipped files on the fly, and NET-SNMP libraries, if you want to enable SNMP support, available at: . Pre-compiled binary packages are available for all the major UNIX flavors, as well as for Windows NT. However, the Windows NT version requires more effort to get working and will not be covered here. A hacking tool which can recover the encryption keys used to "protect" data sent over wireless networks has been released on the Internet. AirSnort is one of the first tools that automates the process of breaking in wireless networks and takes advantages of flaws in the Wired Equivalent Protocol (WEP) which were highlighted by a group of cryptographers a couple of weeks ago. This group, among them Adi Shamir, documented weaknesses in the key scheduling algorithm of RC4, which forms part of WEP. From there it was a short step to the development of AirSnort, which passively monitors the transmissions of a wireless Lan, computing the encryption password when enough packets (between 100MB-1GB) have been gathered. The link for this article located at The Register is no longer available. . Uncover the capabilities of AirSnort as it streamlines the process of infiltrating Wi-Fi networks through the retrieval of encryption keys that safeguard data integrity..
