Amazon Linux 2022: SELinux Enabled by Default with New Update Schedule

Amazon Web Services has announced that it will release an updated version of its own Linux every two years, starting with Amazon Linux 2022, which it is previewing now. The SELinux security module is enabled and enforced by default in AL2022, but EC2 instances running the OS won't automatically implement patches or security updates. Users can instead choose to automate installation of packages, or patches, or both.

Ubuntu 20.04 LTS FIPS 140-2 Certification: High Security Assurance

Canonical has announced that Ubuntu is set to drive high security and regulated workloads thanks to gaining a new FIPS (Federal Information Processing Standards) certification. Nikos Mavrogiannopoulos, Canonical's product manager for security, states, "With the new FIPS 140-2 validation, we can continue to deliver the security requirements that our government, finance, and healthcare clients trust to implement the most secure open-source software to power their infrastructure."
