RSA Security Inc. has released survey findings that identified denial-of-service (DoS) attacks and computer hacking for the purpose of information theft as the top two security concerns for US CSOs. RSA Security Inc. has released survey findings that identified denial-of-service (DoS) attacks and computer hacking for the purpose of information theft as the top two security concerns for US CSOs. However, the survey indicated that only limited security measures are being taken against these threats by most companies. The survey also uncovered that, while viewed by CSOs as the least effective security technology, passwords were overwhelmingly used by those surveyed. The study, which surveyed more than 250 senior information security professionals throughout the US, uncovered a range of opinions and trends on various security threats, global security events, information value and emerging security technologies. However a quick scout around the show yesterday revealed the problem is closer to home than most vendors would like to admit - half of the show's wireless LANs were wide open to attack. Using a Compaq iPAQ equipped with a 802.11b card, Rob Baskerville, a consultant at security services firm Vistorm, discovered that eight of the 15 networks he found were running WLANs without WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy), often taken as a sign that networks are vulnerable. .
