WSL 0.65.1 Release Enhances Linux Experience on Windows Insiders

Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) is a powerful piece of software wizardry that allows users to run GNU/Linux environments directly in Windows without requiring virtual machines (VMs) or dual-boot configurations. Available for both Windows 10 and Windows 11 , it's a very handy utility, especially for cross-platform development and testing. Microsoft regularly updates WSL with new features and capabilities. Today, it has announced WSL version 0.65.1 for Insiders. . As spotted by Windows Central , Microsoft's Manager of the Linux on Windows team Ben Hillis has confirmed that WSL 0.65.1 is available for all Windows Insiders , regardless of the release channel they are currently on. The idea is to cast a wide net for feedback by making it available for all Insiders and then use that feedback to determine whether the release is fit for general availability. . The latest version 0.65.1 of Microsoft’s Windows Subsystem for Linux has been rolled out to all Insiders, enhancing the synergy between Linux and Windows.. Microsoft Azure Cloud Embraces Linux Integration for Services

With the growing popularity of Open Source, Microsoft is following the customers and the ecosystem - but pragmatic investment in Linux doesn't diminish the company's commitment to Windows. . 'Microsoft and Linux' should be a phrase we're used to hearing by now. Microsoft is a member of not only the Linux Foundation but also the Linux kernel security mailing list (a rather more select community). Microsoft is submitting patches to the Linux kernel "to create a complete virtualisation stack with Linux and Microsoft hypervisor". And when Microsoft wanted to add container support to Windows, it picked an open-source specification designed originally for Linux rather than the internal Windows-centric implementation it had already written. Now Azure customers get the same hybrid benefits for Linux support contracts as they do for Windows Server licences; Windows runs Linux binaries; some key Microsoft applications are available on Linux; and new services might be built with Linux. That's not just the obvious ones like the Azure Kubernetes Service: Microsoft Tunnel -- the VPN replacement for iOS and Android apps connecting to corporate resources on-premises through Azure AD -- installs as a Docker container on a Linux server. . Microsoft has evolved from a competitor to a collaborator with Linux, enhancing its cloud services through Azure and promoting open-source innovation and inclusivity. Exploring Rust Language Integration Into Linux Kernel Processes

Have you heard that Linus Torvalds has given the Rust programming language a nod of approval, confirming that the language will be adapted for use in the Linux kernel? . The makers of systems programming language Rust are looking at how to adapt the language for use in the Linux kernel. Josh Triplett, an Intel engineer and lead of the Rust language project, says he'd "love to see a path to incorporating Rust into the kernel", as long as it's done cautiously and doesn't upset Linux kernel creator Linus Torvalds. . Developers of the programming language Rust are exploring ways to modify the language for compatibility with integration into the Linux kernel.. Exploring Secure Boot's Effects On Linux Functionality In Windows 8

A new draft of Microsoft. Lawyers have an old saying: If the facts are on your side, pound the facts. If the law is on your side, pound the law. If neither is on your side, pound the table. A tiny but vocal minority of Linux fanatics are pounding the table today over a new security feature called Secure Boot that will be introduced in Windows 8, shrilly accusing Microsoft once again of a conspiracy to The link for this article located at ZDNet Blogs is no longer available. . Microsoft's Secure Boot, launched with Windows 8, impacts Linux interoperability by enforcing trusted OS loaders, favoring Windows users and complicating Linux installations..
