Anonymous Urges Action Against Facebook For Privacy Violations

Apparently, "Anonymous" won't be accepting your friend request. Members of the shadowy collective known for its politically motivated Web hacks and attacks are targeting Facebook for what they claim to be the social-networking giant's misuse of personal information.. "Your medium of communication you all so dearly adore will be destroyed," the speaker said in a YouTube video, which was posted July 16 but started circulating widely this week. Using a voice modulator to disguise his (or her) voice, the speaker, who purports to represent Anonymous, invites viewers to "join the cause and kill Facebook for the sake of your own privacy." Political Hack: Congressional Websites Defaced Following State of the Union

A number of Congressional websites were defaced with abuse aimed at President Obama following Wednesday's State of the Union address. Websites maintained by Congressmen including Charles Gonzalez (Texas), Spencer Bachus (Alabama) and Brian Baird (Washington) were replaced with a one-line abusive message aimed at Obama by the "Red Eye Crew" from Brazil in the early hours of Thursday morning.. The affected sites are all hosted on the house.gov domain, but only a minority of sites resident on the domain were hacked to display digital graffiti. Some Congressional committee websites were also affected. At least some of the affected sites remain defaced on Thursday morning. A full list of affected sites and additional commentary on the mass defacement can be found in a post by security blogger Praetorian Prefect here. VoteHere Network Breach: FBI Investigating Political Hack

Local and federal authorities including the FBI are investigating an intrusion into a computer network at an e-vote software company, which suspects the hack was politically motivated. . . .. VoteHere, a 7-year-old company in Bellevue, Wash., on Tuesday confirmed reports that its network had been breached in October. The company identified a suspect and said it turned the case over to the FBI, the Secret Service and the U.S. Attorney's office for an investigation that is ongoing. "This is a crime," said VoteHere Chief Executive Jim Adler. "This is about breaking and entering and stealing." It's also, e-voting critics would say, about security. The story of VoteHere's network breach, reported Monday by MSNBC and the Associated Press, is likely to play into a lively debate over the security and reliability of electronic voting systems. That debate has risen in pitch as federal deadlines loom for states to upgrade their voting systems, and e-voting systems provider Diebold has become a lightning rod for criticism for its own series of woes relating to security, partisan comments by its CEO and other issues. Indian sympathizers have wormed their way into the official Pakistani web site, launching a subtle denial-of-service attack. Sophos reports that this is the most recent in a series of politically motivated virus attacks, this time using the Yaha-E worm, which the anti-virus firm first spotted at the end of June. According to Graham Cluley, the firm's senior technology consultant, Yaha-E is currently the second most `popular' virus after Klez. Sophos says that the worm attempts a denial-of-service attack on the home page of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, flooding the site with user requests, overwhelming the server and locking out visitors. The anti-virus firm says that Yaha-E creates a file on infected computers spurring cybercriminals to attack Pakistan. Comsats Internet Services, who host the web site, said that the worm represents a distributed denial-of-service attack that is becoming worse as the worm spreads via users' email attachments. .
