PIKT has been compared favorably to commercial software costing hundreds of thousands of dollars. Yet PIKT is free! Highlights of the latest release: --piktc_svc can now bind to a specific system port, facilitating PIKT's use in firewalled environments. --Implemented the new piktc -w & -W vieW-file options. --Implemented the new piktc ±E option to set/unset environment variables. --Implemented #unset & #unsetenv directives, and new #set & #setenv variants. --Implemented new #setdef and defines.cfg variants. --Added optional alarm message sorting by syslog level. --Fixed several bugs, added a few minor extensions, and made other code improvements. This article is the second of three articles that will help systems administrators configure SMTP daemons and local mail delivery agents to filter out unwanted e-mails before they arrive in the end-users' in-box . In the first installment, we offered a brief overview of Postfix, and began a discussion of rejecting spam with Postfix by blocking e-mail based on the SMTP client, blocking machines with no reverse DNS, SMTP client map restrictions, DNS blackhole lists, bundling Postfix restriction options, and blocking spam based on SMTP Compliance. In this part, we will look at sender/recipient restrictions, restriction ordering, and map file naming conventions before moving on to Procmail in the final article. A computer technician at Georgia-run college who found himself facing criminal charges after installing software for a volunteer distributed-computing effort will face probation instead of prison. David McOwen, once a systems administrator at DeKalb Technical College, faces a year of probation and a $2,100 fine for connecting a number of DeKalb computers to Distributed.net so that the spare computing cycles could assist in a communal code-breaking challenge. But McOwen's supporters, including the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), said today that an agreement reached with state prosecutors was far better than the worst-case scenario: years in prison and hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines and restitution.
