U.S. Postal Service Launches NetPost Certified For Secure Communication

The U.S. Postal Service unveiled a new service Tuesday that allows government agencies to send and receive sensitive documents such as birth certificates and medical records over the Internet in a secure manner. . . .. The U.S. Postal Service unveiled a new service Tuesday that allows government agencies to send and receive sensitive documents such as birth certificates and medical records over the Internet in a secure manner. An electronic version of certified mail, the new system uses a system of passwords and ID cards embedded with computer chips to provide proof that the document arrived safely in the hands of its intended recipient. The system will cost 50 cents per use, regardless of transmission size. Deputy postmaster general John Nolan said the system, dubbed NetPost.Certified, should speed up government services and cut down on paperwork.
