Welcome to the New LinuxSecurity.com: Your Essential Resource

As Linux and Security Evolves, So Has LinuxSecurity.com! . Welcome to the new and improved LinuxSecurity.com ! As an Open Source enthusiast and a member of the LinuxSecurity administrative team, I am very proud to announce that we have just completed the most extensive site overhaul we’ve ever done, coinciding with the 20th anniversary since Dave Wreski, our founder, first started the site. We’re super excited about the new site - these most recent site changes allows us all to interact with other community members who share the same passion for open-source development and cyber security, and who recognize that both of these things are interconnected. For the past year , I have been working with a team of talented administrators and developers worldwide to redesign LinuxSecurity.com, aiming to keep the best aspects of the website while making it available to a broader audience. We’ve made it easier to navigate, as well as easier to read, learn and contribute. A major part of this development has focused on creating a content structure and backend system that is user-friendly and easy to update. Here are some of the new features we’d love for you to explore: Feature stories, including a recent interview with security expert and author Ira Winkler Easier ability to contribute the news that matters to you, register on the site to receive periodic news updates , and participate in our forums . Linux Security advisories for all our favorite distributions, including Red Hat , openSUSE and Scientific Linux Subscribe to our open source security newsletters that cover the topics you need to keep your systems secure and keep you informed. Which Linux distro is most secure? Find out what other people are talking about in our community polls . Our Linux Security Forums page is a new feature on the site. Our experts are available to answer your Linux and open source security questions. We’re also hoping you’ll contribute and help out fellow Linux community members! Extensive documentation on how to secure your webserver , build a Linux firewall , how to use encryption , and other resources in our HOWTOs section. Have you read our most recent press release (hyperlink to press release once posted)? In this release, we elaborate on the launch of our new website and reflect on the 20 year journey that got us to where we are today. Since the site was founded in 1999, we’ve worked to develop LinuxSecurity.com into what we believe is one of the most well-respected and renowned resources for open-source security-related information, updates, news, and advisories. Every day myself and contributors from our community scour the Internet for the most interesting and important news, and share it with our visitors - IT professionals, developers and users like you, seeking to learn more about hacking, programming and Open Source. Dave Wreski, a Linux security expert and founder of LinuxSecurity, had a great vision regarding the future of Open Source. He envisioned the widespread use of Linux and other open-source tools in every project in every business at a time when Microsoft was calling Linux a “ cancer ”. He saw a world where Open Source would be respected and adopted because of its flexibility and superior open source security through open standards and full disclosure. Dave’s spoken with thousands of people, many of whom have remarked that his predictions for Open Source and Linux have been remarkably accurate. Not only has Linux taken off beyond all of our expectations, but Open Source in general has made remarkable strides and is now a part of our everyday lives. I have witnessed firsthand how forward-thinking companies like Guardian Digital, open source email security company and our primary sponsor, have been able to use the Open Source model to produce and release highly effective software, services and solutions. It neverceases to amaze me how Linux and Open Source enthusiasts have truly created a community like no other; a community in which projects rise and fall on their own merits, and competition between them only leads to the greater good of society. I am very proud to be a part of such a community! From the start of this Open Source revolution, LinuxSecurity.com has been a reliable platform for community members to learn, communicate and collaborate on a daily basis. Ultimately, we do this for the good of the community and we would love to hear your thoughts on the changes we have made. It gives us great pleasure to be such a significant part of this Open Source revolution. Like any open-source project, LinuxSecurity.com requires hours of work. If you feel you can contribute in any way, we would love to hear from you. Please do not hesitate to send us ideas, stories or articles at any time. Send us a message on Twitter or Facebook , post a comment in our forum , or share your story with us today!. Sincerely, Brittany This email address is being protected from spambots.
