Summary
libxml2 returns the empty string when the allocation limit is encountered while constructing the attribute value string.
Resolution
All libxml2 users should upgrade to the latest version:
# emerge --sync
# emerge --ask --oneshot --verbose ">=dev-libs/libxml2-2.9.2-r1"
