White House Issues National Cyber Strategy

Taking a critical step forward in national cyber defense, the White House yesterday published the National Cyber Strategy, aimed at strengthening America’s cybersecurity capabilities. President Trump wrote, “With the release of this National Cyber Strategy, the United States now has its fully articulated cyber strategy in 15 years.”

Cybersecurity Is Only 1 Part of Election Security

The DEF CON 2018 Voting Machine Hacking Village aimed to raise awareness in voting security through a full day of speakers and panel discussions along with a challenge for attendees to hack more than 30 pieces of voting equipment. A partnership with rOOtz Asylum offered youths between 8 and 16 years old an opportunity to hack replicas of the websites of secretaries of state to demonstrate that even hackers with limited years of experience can easily compromise critical systems.

Hearing Date Set in Georgia Election Security Case

A hearing has been filed in the ongoing Georgia election cybersecurity case, Curling v. Kemp, where Georgia citizens are fighting for more secure elections in a lawsuit against Secretary of State and gubernatorial candidate Brian Kemp. The hearing is scheduled for Monday, 17 September, at 11am.

DHS Launches Cyber-Risk Management Center

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced the creation of a new cyber-risk management center intended to protect the nation’s banks, energy companies and other industries from potentially crippling cyber-attacks on critical infrastructure, according to agency officials who spoke at the 31 July cybersecurity summit hosted by DHS.

Digital India Susceptible to Security Breaches

As a result, defending India’s critical infrastructure, financial institutions and data security from hackers is critical as the nation advances into the digital age.

California's New Privacy Law Gives GDPR-Compliant Orgs Little to Fear

California's newly enacted Consumer Privacy Act should have little impact for US organizations that have already implemented measures for complying with the requirements of the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation. But for most others the mandate will likely necessitate a thorough review of their data security controls and in many cases potential updates to them.
